The Noble NRA

Imagine a bill that would make it illegal for suspected terrorists to own guns. Who would oppose such a bill? Not the Democrats: they don't really believe in the right to bear arms. Not the Republicans: they don't really believe in the right to a fair trial.

The NRA, being the noble, liberty-supporting organization that it is, is opposing this bill, for specifically the right reason.

As many of our friends in law enforcement have rightly pointed out, the word 'suspect' has no legal meaning, particularly when it comes to denying constitutional liberties."

Punishment is taking away rights. If you commit a crime, the government can take way your right to movement (imprisonment), your right to property (fines) or even your right to life (capital punishment). Before the Government can do this, however, it needs to try you in a fair and impartial court. The same is true for your right to bear arms.
